themi name of the dark, underground road, a passageway between Kolu and Aperkolu; name is only ever spoken by the bardakas in hushed tones to remember all those who died on their passage to Aperkolu; what the name means, none know, for the themen will not speak of it to outsiders.

themi insult, meaning that ‘you let your tongue wag like a groaning stone.’

the Primary Training Cycle of the seklesem from ages 8-12, housed in the training center above Holvar in the eastern spur of the Monti-sterlastan. This group learns basic physical and mental skills, moving on when they master all the skills, which usually happens around age 12.

the Final Training Cycle of the seklesi. All who train to be seklesi, once they have mastered the Primary and Intermediate Training Cycles, spend two years in the navy of the Fereghen, beginning to serve at the lowest ranks; some few who show aptitude remain in the Sea Legion, while the rest return to Holvar to become full seklesi and enter one of the regular legions.

ponkolu leader of Gar’s forces, killed at the battle of the Crossings of Reema, atno 1013; the meaning of his name is unknown, although the first element ‘rag’ usually means ‘Gar’s . . . ,’ but what the second element means, none know.
Senkumli (sehn-KOOM-lee)
advisor to Nefli, leader of the vedi Council of Seers; name means ‘old, puffy cloud.’
Sheldu (SHEHL-doo)
Headmaster of Shigmar’s school from 961-1013, died in the battle of the Crossings of Reema, 1013; meaning of his name is unknown.
skepangethi, em (skay-pahn-GAY-thee)
land reptiles with scaly hides, 4-6 feet in length, tamed and bred by the themen as beasts of burden, name means ‘the scaly walker who moves with a wandering stride.’
steimu (STAY-moo)
themi curse word, which means, literally, ‘stone crusher’ with the added sense of crushing and/or destroying stone for no good purpose, in other words, the ‘senseless destruction of stone,’ which is one of the worst crimes to a themi.
